Little Owls Learning Center recently launched its new weekly Chinese writing class on July 13.
Named “Owlets’ Quill: Weekly Writing Class,” or simply “Quill,” this exclusive class is available to current students of the tutorial service provider.
The initial class focused on teaching students the fundamentals of writing Chinese characters, including proper strokes and sequences to prepare them for more complex characters in subsequent sessions.
Quill is a valuable addition that is aligned with Little Owls’ goal of holistic Chinese language learning.
The writing class complements Little Owls’ flagship structured Mandarin program akin to the Owlets’ Weekly Learning Sessions (OWLS) for children aged 3 to 7.
Writing Chinese characters offers numerous benefits for children, including enhancing memory, observation, creativity, and graphomotor skills.
Additionally, proficiency in Chinese writing aids in their journey toward language mastery.
Due to the logographic nature of the Chinese writing system, children may find it easier to remember words and ideas. In a logographic system, each character corresponds to a word or a minimal meaningful unit of the language, unlike alphabetic systems where each letter represents a sound that makes up a word.
Thus, through Chinese characters, children learn to associate symbols with meanings, facilitating visual and contextual understanding of the language.
Recognizing the significance of these benefits and the path to holistic Mandarin mastery, Little Owls Learning Center meticulously planned and prepared for several weeks before launching its new writing class.
The dedicated teachers and team behind Little Owls understand the advantages of leveraging the visual aspect of the Chinese writing system to help students appreciate the vocabulary they learn in the structured Mandarin program and foster better retention.
While writing is already integrated into the current Mandarin curriculum, particularly at higher levels, Quill provides more focused writing sessions, which will facilitate smoother transitions to advanced levels for students.
Looking ahead, Little Owls students can anticipate weekly writing classes every Saturday, alongside their beloved OWLS sessions held every Thursday at 6:30 pm via Zoom.
Prior to each writing class, students will receive digital worksheets prepared by the team for use during the session.
As students advance, they will tackle increasingly complex Chinese characters, building upon the foundational skills taught in the initial class.
New batches of students will be invited to join once all preparations are complete.
Through Quill, Little Owls students are progressing each week towards mastering Mandarin.
For new students, they can begin with a trial class. Parents can contact the Little Owls Learning Center team via Messenger, WhatsApp, or Instagram to schedule an appointment.
